Ok,
so my computer shows up in all Marlette font. I can only navigate around it
by rememering what all the icons are on the desktop. I tried to restore my
computer to an earlier time but that did not work (there was only one date
this month available and it wouldn't let me go back a month). I found
something online that tells me to add fonts to the registry, but I can't read
anything when I open the registry editor so it doesn't really help. I tried
to reinstall the operating system (all I have is the Millenium disc even
though my computer has XP) but it won't work.

If anyone can help me I would GREATLY appreciat it! thanks, Laura

Try this: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Look for: 249. Set Default XP Font Back to Tahoma

Good Luck!

Thank you!
One question: It says to save the file, but when I click on the link it is
not a file but a webpage with code to put into my registry i think. Do you
know what I am doing wrong? I can't copy & paste anything into my registry
editor because I can't read anything!
thanks!

If you click the 249 link, it will pop up a 'File Download' window with
the standard 'Run', 'Save' and 'Cancel' buttons - that's if you're using
Windows Explorer. Just click the first button on the left, which is the
'Run' button. That will cause the .reg file to merge into your registry
and hopefully set your fonts back to Windows Default. As always, you
should back up your registry before doing anything.

BTW, the site you're going to is Kelly's Korner. It's been invaluable
for finding fixes for the worst Windows problems I've had over the
years. It's also been very safe downloads. In case you're curious here's
what the .reg file contains:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\FontSubstitutes]
"MS Shell Dlg 2"="Tahoma"
"MS Shell Dlg"="Tahoma"

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoSaveSettings"=dword:00000000

Good Luck!

I see that for the other numbers (not 249) it starts a file to download, but
for 249 it doesn't-- rather it just goes to a new page with code that I think
I am supposed to put in my registry editor (but can't since I can't read
anything). Any other ideas?
