help! multiple programs crashing

At random times, my computer shows a message that the
program I am using has experienced an error and needs to
shut down. This is happening with multiple programs from
Neverwinter Nights to Internet Explorer. I never had this
type of problem while using Windows 98, but since
installing Windows XP, this has been a frequent and
annoying problem. Does anyone have any suggestions?

First be sure your PC has at least 256 MB of RAM memory
installed, if not add more memory soon. These frequent
errors like that can be from either over heated
components, and/ or a faulty RAM module. So open the case
and check the cooling fans, and run a diagnostic test on
your memory too. If some system files have become corrupt,
then this will help. Run the system file checker tool, (
click start, run, type in; " sfc /scannow " with that
space after the sfc, and it will ask for your XP CD.

Hi,
It could be something as simple as a corruption in
Internet Explorer. Just this day, I have found that a
listing for Internet Explorer in Add/Remove Programs in
the Control Panel was the offender. I had a listing for
IE 5 custom and one listing for a hot fix (818529).
Internet Explorer 6 xpsp1, even though installed and
running on my computer, had and has no listing in the
Add/Remove Programs.

Internet Explorer was encountering problems and closing
with increasing frequency, and MS Works was encountering
an abnormal phenomenon. Removing the IE 5 custom listing
has semmingly solved all my problems.

Thanks for the ideas, and this is what I found out.

I have 1152 MB of RAM memory, and ran a diagnositc test
that showed nothing was wrong. I checked all of the
coolong fans, and they appeared to be running properly.

I ran the system file checker tool, and after it finished
running, I didn't get any messages or anyting, so I am
unsure how to interpret that.

Any other thoughts?
