This is a new one for me and all the research that I've done on it has left
me totally confused.
A friend brought me her computer that just quit working after copying and
moving files to a new computer. The comptuer is running XP Home, SP2 and
will not boot. The error message says....
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
Windows\System32\Config\System
You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the
original Setup CD-ROM, select 'r' at the first screen to start repair.
The problem is that she has no CD-ROM setup on CD it is on the hard drive.
I have tried safe mode, and last known good configuration. Nothing works.
My response to her is install a new copy of XP, but of course, that would be
a new purchase for an old pc.
