My daughter's computer with Windows XP, which I have
also, suddenly will not start. She has a blue screen and
a message that says use Startup disk but we can't seem to
locate one. I don't think we got a Startup disk with the
computer. Does anyone know if I can download the startup
programs and how I do it?

Save yourself some time and spend a little money.

With the greatest respect, if you don't know what a start-up disk is: or you don't know how to search the internet to find one, then you certainly don't have the knowledge or experience to be able to recover the computer.

I strongly suggest you call around your friends and see who may be able to come over for a few hours and a pizza to assist you: or ese take it back to the shop where you bought it and ask their technical people to have a look.
