Hi. 4 nights ago, I lost power while my pc was on. In the morning, i just hit
the power button and restarted it but it got stuck on the log on screen
without the log on button. I did the Repair Windows XP using the WXP cd and I
did the steps this website mentioned.
http://www.digitalwebcast.com/2002/03_mar/tutorials/cw_boot_toot2.htm

This is the second time I do this - the first time I was successful,
yesterday I wasn't. The Repair was not successful because it will not go back
to my old settings, it won't go back to how it was before the power surge.

I asked on CNet.com what I could do and they suggested that my Last Known
Good Configuration is missing - that I might've accidentaly wiped it out
doing the Repair. And when I hit F8 while the pc is booting LKGC is not there
as an option.

What can I do to fix this problem?? I need my pc and can't afford a new one.
I have a Compaq Presario 5102us with Windows XP Pro. Someone PLEASE HELP
ME!!! :(

if you do a repair, it does replace the settings, you will
have to alter things manually to suit yourself.
What kind of settings are you talking about??

This is a good example of needing a UPS for when the power
goes out, it has a battery that powers your pc for a short
time allowing you to shut down the pc safely.

What exactly is the problem? Does the system not boot up ok and run, or
is just that the "settings" are different than before. You need to
provide some specific information about what happens. Maybe you need to
do the repair install again or maybe a clean install but first post back
with some specific details.
