Windows won't start up

When I turn on my computer I get a screen that says at the top ---We
apologize for the inconvenience but WIndows did not start successfully. Then
at the bottom it gives me choices on how I want to start Windows:
Safe Mode
Safe Mode woth networking
Safe Mode with commands
Last known good configuration
Start Windows normally

No matter what I click on Windows will not start. I do have two CDs. One
is the Operating System CD. When I put it in it says do you want to
reinstall or repair. I hit repair and it works for a minute then comes back
up and says to exit repair type in EXIT. So I do that and it goes back to
the first screen again and won't let me in. The 2nd is the APplication and
driver Recovery DVD. It does not do anything when I put it in. It did this
same thing about a month ago and by mistake I hit reinstall and it has worked
fine until this morning. Any ideas on what I can do? This is a laptop if it
makes any difference.

The apology shows this is a custom message (not a Microsoft message)
so you may get some help from the manufacturer's web site.

If Windows started OK any time in the last week you may be able
to reboot and / System Restore (i.e. reboot with the Registry the
way it was before).
1. Start in Safe Mode (if you can) then
2. / Start / Help
and select "Performance & Maintenance" (towards the end of the Left
column)
3. Select USING SYSTEM RESTORE (left window)
then in the right window select RUN SYSTEM RESTORE WIZARD
4. Select the prior date when the laptop started OK. If one date
does not work OK you can try another.

What is your computer make and model?

Do you have important data on the drive you need to recover?

Do you have access to a second computer? What is that computer make and
model?

Hope this helps.

HP Pavilion is the one I am having problems with. I do have access to
another computer and it is a Compaq Presario. There is really not much on
the drive I need to recover.
