After reinstalling Windows, I find a new "service" called Prism XL.
It is in Program Files | Common | Lanovation | Prism XL | PrismXL.sys.
Can anyone tell me what this program is for, or what program installed it?
Also, I'm curious about something called MsSoap, apparently a WindowsXP
component. What does this do?

Lanovation:

mssoap has been replaced by the .net framework.

How interesting. It looks like something to do with installing programs on a
network. I'm not on a network.
I did just reinstall Windows from an OEM CD, however. Do you suppose this
Prism Deploy had something to do with that?
The article also says it's for 98, NT, 2000, but doesn't say XP!

I would guess that Prism was there to enable the computer manufacturer
to remotely patch some OEM software.

Thanks. It strikes me that this is just after a reinstall from an OEM CD.
This app and "service" were not there under the original Out-ofBox setup,
however.
