to add an account the pop up window asks for the incomming and outgoing e

Use the Configuration Settings on this page:
http://mailcall.spaces.live.com/Blog/cns!CC9301187A51FE33!49799.entry

NB: Set Outgoing server (SMTP) to Port 587, not Port 25!

Windows Mail's new account wizard is hard-coded to reject (e-mail address removed)
addresses. When you enter your email address during setup, use a dummy one
(e.g., (e-mail address removed)). After you've finished, go back and change the
email address to the correct one.

Here is the trick that may be needed, to set up the Hotmail, Live etc
account in WM.

Start with a new account setup and use (e-mail address removed) for example.

Setup the account with the correct server, port and SSL settings, (below),
save it, ignore errors, then go back and enter the correct email address
and (e-mail address removed) or msn.com or live.com

Try the following settings for Hotmail or Live accounts?

POP server: pop3.live.com (Port 995)
POP SSL required? Yes
User name: Your Windows Live ID, for example (e-mail address removed)
Password: The password you usually use to sign in to Hotmail or Windows
Live
SMTP server: smtp.live.com (Port 25 or 587)
Authentication required? Yes (this matches your POP username and password)
TLS/SSL required? Yes

Windows Mail doesn't support HTTP mail, which for a long time was the
only allowed access method for free Hotmail accounts.

In February, Microsoft enabled POP access for free Hotmail/Live/MSN accounts.
Follow the settings given here:
http://mailcall.spaces.live.com/Blog/cns!CC9301187A51FE33!49799.entry
Use port 587 rather than port 25 for the SMTP server.

Although it accepts the newer Live.com addresses, Windows Mail's
account setup wizard is hard-coded to reject Hotmail and MSN addresses.
To get around that, when you enter your Hotmail/MSN email address initially,
use a fake one, such as (e-mail address removed). After the account setup is complete,
go back and correct your email address.

Explain to me how do I change the port 587 than 25.The error message I am
getting is as under
"Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Account: 'pop3.live.com', Server: 'pop3.live.com', Protocol:
POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10053, Error Number:
0x800CCC0F"

The error message that you posted is a receiving error, to rectify go to the
tools menu>select your account>properties>advanced tab>change Port 110 to
995>select SSL>apply>OK

Change 25 to 587 while you are there and enable SSL check box.

Clear your outbox of messages.

Test to yourself, post any further error messages to your reply.

From Tools - Accounts - select your .live account - Properties - follow as
below

Live.com Settings:

Server names and ports (Server and Advanced tabs):
POP3 = pop3.live.com Port = 995 (Note: yours is probably ".live.in"
instead of ".live.com")
SMTP = smtp.live.com Port = 587 (Note: yours is probably ".live.in"
instead of ".live.com")

Checkboxes you need to check include:

Server Tab: "My server requires authentication" (Click "Settings" button
also and fill in "Log on Using" email address - *** but do NOT check the
checkboxes there . . . .)

Advanced Tab: BOTH outgoing and incoming - "This server requires a secure
connection (SSL)"

General Tab (if desired but generally recommended): "Include this account
when receiving mail or synchronizing"

Should work - if you get errors post the entire error message (cut-n-paste)
for further assistance.
