Help - Major IE Frustration (Slow)

P

PW

Not sure what caused it (somewhere after installing and
using Norton Systemworks) but here is the situation:

When I start IE6.0.2800.1106, the program IEXPLORE
immediately pegs the cpu. It now takes over 1 min to
display my homepage (www.msn.com, of course). Any new
instances of IE does the same thing. All web pages are
loading slower.

Also, it is interesting that the menus in IE are also
slow. The inital display of "Tools-Internet Options-
Advanced" will take over a min also. CPU is also pegged.
However, if I stay in the internet options menu, click on
another tab, then click back to "Advanced" the display is
almost immediate (as it used to be)

I have done the following:
- Reinstalled IE6 (what a chore!!! - Microsoft you can
make this a lot easier pls) - though feel didn't really do
a full reinstall, as the program ran too quickly
- Run Adaware at maximum scan
- Run Spybot
- uninstalled and reinstalled all graphics drivers
- Executed in safe mode will all startup programs and
services disabled and boot.ini set to safeboot(Network)
and /basevideo (with no luck)
- Run Norton utilities for registry problem, virus, etc
(one button checkup)

I did remove some ACTIVEX controls with Norton, and this
may be the problem, but I'm not sure what was removed, how
to identify it, or how to replace it.

All other programs run fine, except the lovely IE. I even
tested my graphics card with PCMARK and ensured it was
peforming at the same level it was prior to the slowdown.

My guess is since high CPU consumption of the IEXPLORE
itself, and the slow menu, it has something to do with
graphics and/or memory loading, but I'm pretty lost at
this point.

HELP!!!!!

Thanks

First eliminate any scumware.
See

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each need to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded.

If trying everything at that site does not fix the problem please post back
in the same thread.

.

I did eliminate all scumware based on advice you gave in
previous posts. So I don't believe it is a scumware
problem, but I could be missing something.

I have also noticed that large (500K and above) emails in
MS OUTLOOK open slowly and exhibit the same CPU
consumption as IE. Is is possible that somehow the
connection to directX/ is lost and now using some type of
software rendering? This I guess would only effect
microsoft products? As stated earlier, 3Dmark2001 runs
fine, and I have also downloaded Advanced Browser, which
brings up the same web pages in less than 1 sec.

Thanks..
