Hey! I'm having major problems with my computer at the moment. All of a
sudden i go to turn it on, and after a while of starting up, it will simply
re-start. It then gives me the option of starting up again in safe mode etc.
but none of these options seem to make any difference. The computer will
begin to start up, and just as it is about to load the welcome screen, it
shuts down and restarts! Could this be to do with a virus? i've tried
cleaning the whole computer from the inside, out, to see if the problem could
have been due to overheating caused by dust in the fans etc. but it has made
no difference. If nothing can be done about this, then is there a way for me
to copy the contents of my C-Drive to another computer or onto disks, without
removing the actual hard drive and putting it in a different computer. etc.
for example, is there a way to access the hard drive of another computer
through a wire, without the remote hard drive actually running??? Any help
with this would be greatly appreciated since my last option is to perform a
factory reset, and wipe the whole computer. I hope it doesn't come to this.
Thanks for reading. Please leave feedback!!!

You need to give a lot better description of when the computer restarts.
Does it actually get into Windows? Does it finish the POST (Power On
Self Test); i.e., the very first part after booting up, before the
operating system is loaded? If the operating system does not even get
loaded, then you probably have hardware problems. If the hard drive is
still viable - can be seen in the BIOS - data can be retrieved from it.

At this point, based upon your post, your best course of action is to
take the computer to a good local repair shop (not a BestBuy or CompUSA
type of store) for diagnosis, data rescue, and fixing.

If you can get your hands on an XP install disk, boot from it and do a repair
install. That's probably the best option, and it's worked for me when fixing
a few friend's computers that had the registry corrupted (which may be your
problem). I _strongly_ urge you to try a repair install first since it can
fix many problems. If it doesn't fix it, then it's definitely a hardware
problem.

BTW, Malke, it would appear to me from the description it does complete POST
and fails when loading Windows.

It wasn't obvious to me where the failure was which is why I asked for
clarification from the OP. Unfortunately, since all of you are using
the web interface instead of a newsreader, the OP may never find this
thread again and we'll never know. I would not start with a Repair
Install without rescuing the data first, and I would determine that the
hardware is good before trying a software solution.
