Help!! I lost my CD Drive

P

Patrick

Hi
I believe when I installed the recommended Windows update
of Direct 9X end user update, I lost then my CD Drive
anymore.
I have a Dell Latitude C810 with a fix CD Drive and Win2K
Pro.
I did reinstall my CD driver again few times, restarted
each time, disable, etc..., NADA.
Then, I ran Dell diagnostics (5) diskettes, which sees and
tests my CD Drive OK but back to launching WIN2K, normal
or safe boot, no more CD Drive or driver! in the Window
Explorer or the Device Manager. It physically turns for
sure but nothing else.
I, also, mounted a CD/DVD bay, the driver installed at
first and then WIN2K asked to reboot the computer. Then
no more of it, same as the fix CD Drive.
I cannot even reinstall or repair window. It looks like
it is a WIN2K OS problem of not seeing any CD drive.
How can I repair then? Can you help?
Cheers

I am having the same problem in a way, 2KPro sees the
drive but can't read or write to it! The one thing I
haven't tried is to change the drive letter assigned to
the CDR/W. Anyone think this might help? This has
happened before, and only a reformat and clean install
corrected it. I really want to save this install if I
can, it has all the accounting files from work on it! So
pls help! Someone!

Go to support.microsoft.com, and Search for your problem. There's an article
there that deals with it, but I can't find the reference to it right now.

Good luck.
