If you are a home user and not using Exchange, why did you select that as your account type?

Go into Control Panel->Mail Icon=>Accounts. Remove the Exchange account. Back up and add your POP3 or IMAP account using the settings provided by your ISP.

Are you sure you have no mail icon. Close Control Panel. Open Word and then close it. Go back to control panel and see if you see the mail icon now.

Are you using the Category view of Control Panel or the Classic View? If
the former, it will be under the User Accounts category.
