help! I can't install windows

i can't install windows!
when my computer starts, it says someting about proper booting. When I put
in my windows cd, it tells me where I want to install it, but the problem is
that theres nothing to choose from! If I try to scroll up, I get the famous
'blue screen of death' that tells me reboot my computer.

what do i do?
 
Set to boot to xp cd,usually its priority devices in the BIOS,then at info
page select recovery,press enter for password,then type:CHKDSK C: /R
When its thru type:EXIT Let xp start-up.
