Guys I'm in a world or hurt here. I decided to lose
Office 2000 to free up some space on my hard drive.
Well it's all gone a little weird since then, so I
decided to reload XP over the install to see if that
would cure the problems.
Now my system will go as far as the XP screen with the
small moving blue bar then blue screen with a physical
dump everytime.
error message is a s follows:
STOP:c0000218{Registry file failure}
The registry cannot load the hive (file):
\SystemRoot\System32\Config`SOFTWARE
or it's log or alternate
It is corrupt,absent,or not writable.

I hope someone can help nwith this as I really need back
onto this PC and my files.

Cheers PAul

So how did you remove Office 2000, just delete the folder or
did you use add/remove software?

One thing I do have access to here is a system recovery
disk that came with this laptop.
Will this work with my PC or is it tied into the licence
it was created with?

A system recovery CD will usually wipe the hard drive and
return it to factory software configuration. You will have
to reinstall all applications that were not installed at the
factory, run all the updates and restore your data from
backups.
If the restore CD came with the computer it should have the
same license as the computer as it was created.
Your best option would have been to use the system restore
feature to roll back to an earlier date, before you removed
the software. But you likely have destroyed that option
with the reinstall of XP over the system. But it is worth a
try, see if you can boot to safe mode (press F8 before
Windows boots) and if you can roll back to a date before the
problem started.

Good luck, that's all I can think of at the moment.
