HELP!!!! hardware malfunction

hi all just updated to xp from 98 When I try to play any
game the computer locks up with blue screen error message
hardware malfunction call your hardware vendor for
support the system has haulted. Have to turn power off
then back on to get computer to start. Does the same
thing with any video playback. Have installed the latest
drivers for video card and sound card. Also have
installed service pack 1a. Still no go. Everything works
fine under 98. Specks p3 850, gforce 256 32mb, sound
blaster 64, 256mb memory. Have searched windows news
groups can't find any help. Would appreciate any help.

thanks michael but still no go. did Check System
Compatibility and NPF. dont think it's my games my friend
has the same ones and they run fine on xp. any thuoghts?

ok the Event Viewer showed at time of crash. (1) wmi
adap failed to connect to namespace \\.root\cimv2 with
the following error 0x8004100e.(2)wmi adap was unable to
process the performance libraries. both happen at time of
crash. any help!!!!!!

This looks really suspicious, I think you have the worm that's been going
around.
