I am new at using Window Mail. I have a gmail account and I wish to use
Window Mail. How can I get started?

rather than get start with the less than robust Windows Mail

Just follow the straightforward instructions on the Gmail site.

(It would be difficult to make the lingo less technical.)

ps. The instructions are for Outlook Express but work
for Windows Mail and Windows Live Mail.
