HELP - Found new hardware wizard wont go away

Hi. I recently repaired my windows xp installation and
added service pack 1. Ever since the repair, the found
new hardware wixard pops up with Found new hardware:
printer. It doesnt state what sort of printer or
anything. If i choose to install automatically, the
required software was not found. If i install manually,
and choose HP officejet Pro 1150 C, which is what i have
plugged in, It installs the printer, but the yellow
bubble comes up with "there was a problem during the
installation, your installed hardware might not work
properly", then the found new hardware wizard comes back
up after reinstall, or any time i start windows. If i
have the hp 1150 plugged in when i start windows, it
finds all the hp 1150 harware fine, but the printer
install still pops up. If i unplug the hp 1150 or disable
the LPT1 port it still comes up. I tried deleting all the
printer drivers. disabling print spooler, removing
PRTmate from the WIN.INI file and deleting the oem## inf
file(which i couldnt find). If i tick the "do not ask to
install this device again" box during the found new
hardware wizard, it still comes up. Any help would be
greatly appreciated.

Thank you for replying... I read through the article, but
it does not apply to hp 1150c. The hp 1150c must be plug
and play because in the online hp manual,
http://h20015.www2.hp.com/en/document.jhtml;jsessionid=2GC
HTMU3DKK5XQEXGRMENZQ?reg=na&cc=us&docName=bpu01853&lc=en&
it states the ECP printer port must be set to "enable
legacy plug and play". Also i dont think the bug in XP
that is causing the problem is related to the fact i have
an hp 1150c because even if the printer is still diabled
or unplugged, it detects a new one. Any more help would
be greatly appreciated
