Help for the WINNT Challenged

I have a Winnt 2000 Professional Operating system on my
removable IDE drive. I use it at college as a main drive
on towers that have connections but no hard drives. At
home I slide it into a rack and access files (in
theory.. ). I could not access the Oracle Server and
database which I needed.

My home PC is running Windows XP and I can boot there but
not to the NT on the rack drive.

My instructor told me to add a line to the boot.ini file
on my hard drive and change the disk(0) to disk(1) and
name the drive something. It would then prompt me to
which drive I wanted to boot. I did this and it did prompt
as expected but it will not allow the bootup.

It returns an error about hardware configuration. I am
still able to boot from my XP drive

I changed the boot.ini file to include the winnt drive and
it comes up with the prompt to select one of them but it
will not allow me to choose the winnt op system. It says
it has a hardware configuration error.

I am not a PC guy. I merely use software ON A PC.. I am
about to throw the thing out a NON-MICROSOFT WINDOW!

The instructor teaches Oracle DBA PL/SQL and the like. I do not know what
his OS knowledge is but I know what mine is... minimal!

I know 3 things.
1. I don't know enough about manipulating operating systems to configure
much more than my pretty screensaver.
2. I can access SQLPLUS and write code but the code is calling tables in the
Oracle database so I can not prove the code without this access.
3. I could use some options that do not require sets of 3 initials behind my
name.
