Somewhere in recent updates and tweaks I have lost the ability to view
program Help. Word is a good example. If I click on Help then I get the
Help page (which I think is an Internet Explorer page) with headings (topics)
in the left pane but with "Action Cancelled" in the right pane. If I click
on a topic in the left pane the message in the right pane changes to suggest
that the web server cannot be accessed. The pc is running XP pro with sp2
and I have re-run sp2 with no effect. I have now installed IE7 and this has
changed the messages I get in the right pane to the IE7 equivalents of the
ones I was getting before with IE6. but I still cannot get any help files to
open in any program (even non-microsoft progs such as Norton security. Any
ideas for a fix short of re-installing XP

I'm not an expert on this so beware...

I was researching a similar problem and came across info in the MS KB which
suggested that recent security upgrades/patches to XP had disabled some of
the scripting functionality (the help system relies on this) and that there
is a download to get around the error messages generated - but it doesn't
restore the original functionality.
