I need help with this and all I have read in related threads were of no use.
The problem is that after using my computer for a few minutes, I am not able
to open anything due to not enough memory (the actual message is very
similar, but can't remember it). When I open the task manager (which is the
only thing that I can open) I see that "explorer.exe" is taking at least 50%
of the CPU usage.
I just upgraded my system to a whole new one (motherboard - MSI k8n Neo4
Platinum, processor - AMD Athlon 64 3800+ X2, memory - x2 1 gb 128 bit, video
card - Geforce 6800 GT), but I never had this problem when I was running my
old system. Is there a solution to my problem? Your input will be apreciated,
thanks.

P.S. If you need more info on other programs that I am running, let me know.

Download MULTI_AV.EXE from the URL --
http://www.ik-cs.com/programs/virtools/Multi_AV.exe

To use this utility, perform the following...
Execute; Multi_AV.exe { Note: You must use the default folder C:\AV-CLS }
Choose; Unzip
Choose; Close

Execute; C:\AV-CLS\StartMenu.BAT
{ or Double-click on 'Start Menu' in C:\AV-CLS }

NOTE: You may have to disable your software FireWall or allow WGET.EXE to go through your
FireWall to allow it to download the needed AV vendor related files.

C:\AV-CLS\StartMenu.BAT -- { or Double-click on 'Start Menu' in C:\AV-CLS}
This will bring up the initial menu of choices and should be executed in Normal Mode.
This way all the components can be downloaded from each AV vendor's web site.
The choices are; Sophos, Trend, McAfee, Kaspersky, Exit this menu and Reboot the PC.

You can choose to go to each menu item and just download the needed files or you can
download the files and perform a scan in Normal Mode. Once you have downloaded the files
needed for each scanner you want to use, you should reboot the PC into Safe Mode [F8 key
during boot] and re-run the menu again and choose which scanner you want to run in Safe
Mode. It is suggested to run the scanners in both Safe Mode and Normal Mode.

When the menu is displayed hitting 'H' or 'h' will bring up a more comprehensive PDF help
file. http://www.ik-cs.com/multi-av.htm

You would have a better chance of getting a specific answer if you
could provide the complete *verbatim* text of the error message(s).

High CPU usage is very often an indication that your computer has been
infested with some sort of malware (virus, trojan, spyware, etc.). Try
at least two of the following free online scanners and see what they
find:

Trend Micro http://housecall.trendmicro.com
Kaspersky Online Scanner http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner
Panda ActiveScan http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan
WindowSecurity.com TrojanScan http://windowssecurity.com/trojanscan
Webroot http://www.webroot.com/

Good luck

Ok, I downloaded the little program and now it won't finish scanning. I scan
with Sophos and Trend (the first two) and it brougt back the results saying
that some files could not be checked and there were a ton that were
corrupted. I cannot provide you with the specific results because up until
now, it is still scanning wiht te McAfee one and looks like it does not want
to finish because it is hanging in the same file for hours. What should I do?
Thanks for all your help.

Ok, the exact message that I get is:
"There is not enough free memory to run theis program. Quit one or more
programs, and then try again."
Hopefully that helps for a better diagnosis. Thanks a lot.

Ignore "corrupted" and "can't access" mesasages in Sophos and Trend Micro reports. They can
be expected.

Did they actually detect anything ?

I don't know why McAfee is "hanging" on a file although I have seen this happen occasional
on email databases.
