S

Sean O'Dwyer

New scanner arrived (Perfection 2480) and installation is giving me gyp.
Scanner is identified by the computer but won't scan.

Has anyone experienced this, and found the solution?!?!!?

OS 10.4.1.

Have installed latest TWAIN drivers, re-installed Epson's s/w, etc.

No joy.

TIA.

Did you Unlock the shipping lock?
Does the scanner have power?

The problem was with the older Epson Scanner drivers which were in place
from my previous scanner. I would have thought that the install s/w for
the 2480 would have overwritten or disabled the drivers for the much
older 610, but no. After 20 mins on the phone with Epson (very helpful)
the guy had me pull them out by hand, install the new drivers and I was
up and running right away.

Thanks for your reply.

Win98SE, USB 1.1

I'm not able to run this scanner. The previous scanner (HP) runs with no
problems. But this one doesn'work either. I tried it on the WinXP - with
no problems. It seems (and the system announcements tell it) there's a
problem with the supplied driver. In spite the description on a packing
box and in booklet ensures the OS and USB versions are ok for this
scanner, I think there must be a problem with the driver.

Anybody knows where I can find a driver for this scanner? The
www.driverguide.com is pain in the ass to get something from.

TIA

If I have seen farther it is because I have stood on the shoulder of
giants.

Sure, the drivers are available direct from Epson USA.
There are two models of the Epson Perfection 2480. One is the Perfection
2480 Limited Edition the other is Perfection 2480 PHOTO.

This software is for Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows Me, Windows 98SE. It
may not work well with earlier versions of Windows 98.

Similar problems with earlier iterations of HP and Umax scanners ( I too
now use Epson 2480 Photo -LE- which adds set-top document feeder for twice
the price of basic scanner ) until I purchased PCI card for USB 2.0 for
another component. Voila! perhaps timing problems USB 1.1 vs. 2.0 despite
backward compatible claims by manufacturers? Gurus to clarify/obfuscate?
Altho still using AMD cpu, IWILL mb, PCI USB 2.0 card and SDRAM as before,
OS step up to W2K also helped all components and programs.
