help! Direct X Screen problems

B

I'm sorry to trouble you all but I have a problem with
direct x and lack the
knowledge to sort it.

When i play certain games (not all) and it is full
screen, the games "lifts"
and i have a large black band at the bottom of my screen.
If there is a full
screen option i can make it windowed and have no problems
but i have to take
back many games because of this. i have tried re-
installing direct x and
have updated everything on windows update and direct x.

It is a brand new flat screen computer with Windows XP so
i cant think it
can be drivers.

Any suggestions? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Best Regards

Becky, it would help to know which DirectX version you're running, and which
games you're seeing this. Also if you've checked for any updates to the
games from the various manufacturer's web sites. Have you checked for newer
drivers for your graphics card, and which card is it? If you haven't
already installed it, Windows XP Service Pack 2 includes DirectX 9.0c:

Hello!

Have you looked in Display Options in the Control Panel?

It will most likely be under the card specific tab, which can be found under
the "settings" tab on the Display Options window, and then click Advanced
near the bottom, have a dig around in there see what you can find.

Usually there is an option to stretch the display, on my ATI card it's
called "Image Scaling" with two options "scale image to full screen size"
(this is the one you want). It could well be called something completely
different if you're using a different companies graphics card.
