Help! default text layout has suddenly become vertical!

When I create a new document in Word 2007, the default text layout is now
vertical. I have searched in vain for a solution to this problem. Can someone
help me get the default text layout back to horizontal? Thank you.

Do you mean that the text is (a) rotated or (b) in a narrow column, one
letter below another, or that the page is in Landscape rather than Portrait
orientation?

Yes, I should have said that the text is rotated top to bottom 90 degrees. It
makes no difference whether the page is in landscape or portrait orientation.
Thanks.

Is the text in a text box, frame, or table? If so, check Format | Text
Direction. If not, is an Asian or Middle Eastern language enabled? Or is
there any setting in your printer Properties that might affect this?

None of these apply, that's why I am completely baffled. Please note that I
am working with Word 2007 Beta, not Word 2003. The printer is fine, set to
default, and it prints all my previously created documents without a hitch. I
don't have any other languages enabled outside of French, English, and
Eastern European characters. The text is not in a text box or a table.

When I create a new document, the cursor lies horizontally rather than
vertically, and all text flows from top to bottom. Even the formatting line
in the ribbon shows a vertical layout (left align, justified, etc. appear
vertically)! In order to read the typed text, I would have to tilt my head at
a 90 degree angle, toward the right.

If there is no solution, I will uninstall and reinstall Office 2007 Beta
(sigh). Thank you.

Ok, I think I got it! I removed the new Word templates from my templates
folder (in Documents and Settings, application data, microsoft, templates). I
will now reinstall each template and check the new Word file in order to find
the culprit template! Thank you for your help.
