Help connecting to home network computers

When I am trying to connect to my brothers computer who is on my same network
at our house, I can see his computer when I click on "my network places -->
view workgroup computers" and it lists his computer, but when I double click
on it it prompts me for a username and a password. We don't know what
username and password to put in here as we have tried everything. How do we
prevent the prompt from coming up?

Have you tried not putting in anything and clicking okay because usally if
you haven't put in a password there won't be one.

Are your User accounts on each computer password-protected? Are you running
XP Pro or Home?

On the WinXP computer, create local user account(s), with non-blank
password(s), that have the desired access privileges to the desired
shares. Log on to the other PCs using those account(s), and you will be
able to access the designated shares, provided your network is
configured properly. Also, if running WinXP SP1 or later, make sure
that WinXP's built-in firewall is disabled on the internal LAN
connection. If using WinXP SP2, make sure that you've either disabled
the built-in firewall, or set the firewall to allow file and print sharing.

Usually, WinXP's Networking Wizard makes it simple and painless --
almost entirely automatic, in fact. There's a lot of useful,
