I had the silly idea to do a repair reinstall of Windows XP Home
Edition (not
a "full install", which I will avoid at all cost and which formats
your drive, but
a refresh of the windows installation ). Reason being I was having
network configuration problems and somewhat slow startups, and decided
this was the
quickest way to fix all the mysterious little problems.
Problem is... after the repair install completed and the machine
rebooted, I only
saw the startup screen/logo for a few seconds, after which the
computer would
reboot - ad infinitum. I tried "Last Known Good Configuration", didn't
do squat.
I tried accessing Safe Mode, it would start the process but again,
reboot before
the desktop was loaded. I tried redoing a quick repair. It told me
the last repair
didn't complete, and it went through the process again, seemingly
successfully.
But the rebooting problem remained.
What can I do to repair this?! I do NOT want to reformat my drive, I
have too much to lose. I can probably access the drive with ERD
Commander, but not sure how to go about fixing the problem so that I
can complete the repair install and get on with life....
