help, can't stay on the internet

2 days ago I was on the internet andall of a sudden I got cannot find
server,I couldnt do anything so I reinstalled windows xp and at first things
were fine for about 20 minutes. then I got cannot find server again and the
only way I can get it back is to restore my computer or reinstall windows xp.
is anyone out there that can tell me what is going on and how to fix it.?
would apreciate anyones help

Hi Sandie before reinstalling may be worth investigating to see if you
still have network connectivity. Run a test on your modem to check if
it is working ok. Windows Key+R type cmd to open command window. type
"ipconfig" to see if you still have an IP address.
type "ping www. Your ISP name" to see if you have connectivity to
their network.
 
i tried that and it says media is disconected and ping could not find host.
so now what?
 
Hi hatinneb, I think that windows or your isp is not the problem. Your modem
could be the problem, your need to update the modem's driver.
 
Failing that do you know anybody that could lend you their modem for a
short time span, so you could swap yours out and see if you still have
the same problem.
