Help - can't open service.lck for read/write

Bill Lampman

Hi ,

I'm trying to publish my new web pages to an existing site, but
FrontPage keeps giving me the
error "can't open service.lck for reading..." - it's a 0 byte file - there's
nothing to read. If I create my
own 0 byte file it says "can't open service.lck for writing".

I am running IIS on a WinNT 4.0 server and am logged in as
administrator. Any suggestions ?

Find service.lck and delete it on your local PC if opening / publishing to localhost
If publishing to an online server have your host do the same

I tried deleting the service.lck file. When it is present I get the error
"can't
open for writing", when I delete it I get the error "can't open for
reading". Any other
suggestions ?

The problem is FIXED!! I went into FP server administrator and
reinstalled the server extensions
for IIS, and check the site for errors. Going back to FP and publishing now
functions again...
