I had problems with Windows Vista and other programs while using
McAfee--don't know if they're up to date with Vista stuff--I uninstalled
McAfee and went with CA Anti-virus software--it's free for a year--should be
plenty of time for McAfee to catch up. No problems with it yet.

You need to configure McAfee so it doesn't mess with your email.
Even better, uninstall McAfee altogether and replace it with the free AVG
or Avast antivirus program. Whichever antivirus program you get, it must
be configured such that it does NOT scan email. Email scanning causes
nothing but problems.

As a precaution, I began a reverswe sequence of uninstalls hoping that maybe
one of those installs would reverse an altered setting. Thunderbird was the
culprit. Once I uninstalled it, my email works fine now.

Thought to pass this along ... installing non-registered software can change
settings. In this case, it disabled my email. And I really liked Thunderbird
email ... oh well.
