HELP: BIG "Display" PROBLEM

it's seems reasonable
that you have acquired
enough information from
your system to make
a decision.

because the distortion
occurs at the time of power
up, then it is a hardware issue.

we know it's not the monitor
and we know your intel chip has
agp and we know your motherboard
has no regular vga port installed

i don't recall but i think
you may have indicated that
disabling the driver helped.

tricky problem. but likely resolved
with a new video board...

gives us an update when you
get a better motherboard or video
card....

My learned friend db,

It has been some time since our last communication as it took longer than
anticipated to acquire another monitor. Nevertheless, I have plugged it in
and booted the PC. At the boot-up sequence the windows logo along with
loading bar is still distorted. Therefore, the problem remains. Can I assume
as that the problem must be with the graphics card? However, since I disabled
the graphics card (not uninstalled, but disabled) I no longer seem to have
problems getting to

I admit that I do not know what the above means. Is there any other
information I can provide you with?
Do you think that the problem rests with the graphics card? If so should I
replace it. I cannot imagine where I would get a temporary substitute card,
just to test which may mean I will have to buy a new one.

Please advise.

-Joe

PS. To Learned friend nigthowl. I thank you for your suggetion. I will
Attempt them also and report back.

My learned friends,

After a comedy of errors, I finally acquired a new and compatible AGP
graphics card. After installation my display was fine, in fact it is better
than fine, in the sense that the display is much sharper, obviously due to
the more advanced card. In sum, in seems that the problem did rest with my
old graphic card. I thank you all for your contributions. You have my
gratitude.

I am still

Yours,

-Joe

Well glad you have it fixed. Not surprising on what it took to resolve it,
though. Two people replied to your post within two days of it saying you
needed to replace it.

I see you're still using the (awful) web interface to post with. Do
yourself another favor and use a newsreader. Have fun.

Joe,
I just bought a computer with a gforce 8600gt video card and after several
weeks, my computer starting acting identical to what you are saying yours is
doing. after troubleshooting everything as you have, i contacted the computer
company and they had me exchange the video card...sure enough the new card
worked just fine. I might suggest try installing a different card into your
present computer or try installing your present card into another
computer...this would be a step to determine if you have a faulty card.
