Every time I start my laptop after about 15 minutes a "Help and Support
Center" window opens with a message "Cannot Display the Page, please select
another page to display" or something like that.

This behavior started after I installed a recent Windows Update.

Can anyone tell me what is going on and/or how to stop it, short of a
reinstall.

TIA

Yes I do have a Compaq, it's a Presario 725us notebook. From the speed of
your reply I suspect you have seen similar issues before. Are there any
other issues I should be aware of?

Ramesh,
first let me thank you for your time and advice.
Maybe I was not clear, this happens by itself, I am not starting anything,
except Windows. I do not want this thing whatever it is.
It only starts after I start Windows and if I shut it down it does not come
back.

Ramesh,
a couple of other things I observed:

1. The window appears five minutes after logon.
2. It does reappear if I log out and then log on.

Also here is the exact text of the message:

"Cannot display the page

The page you are trying to view has an incorrect address and cannot be
displayed. Please try another page."

Hi Ramesh,

Thanks for your suggestions, however they have not helped my problem either.
I seem to get help and support dialogue boxes for everything. e.g if i open
notepad i get a help and support box offering help to use notepad. If i use
iexplorer then i get a help dialogue box for that. Even when i opened the
event manager i got one for that! They just wont go away! and come back time
and time again! I have removed sp2 and even tried a rebuild with xp pro but
it still does it!
aaararrraaaarrrr!!!!!!

Hi Andy and Ramesh,
I think I have a different problem from you Andy, from reading your posts,
you seem to see the problem when you initiate an action, my problem window
just appears no matter what I'm doing. If I just turn on my computer (or log
off and log on) the window will apear one time only. I have gone through all
of the info Ramesh provided, and cannot find anything that relates to Help
Center.

Some of the Keys mentioned are not on my system, but that isn't surprising.

I'll let you know if I find anything.

Hi Andy,

Did you ever get the below resolved. I'm having the same issue on a Dell
Inspiron 600m. Very frustrating.

Hi again guys,
I did finally resolve the problem, however I was in the middle of looking
for another problem and I don't remember the solution, it was a registry
entry, if I remember exactly what it was I will post it. It was a "run once"
or "run" key.
Sorry
