Help/Advice on Reinstalling XP

I have a series of problems and I think the only way to resolve them is to
reinstall XP. I have the original XP Pro CD and then I have the SP2 CD. I
assume I need to use the original disk to do the install then use the SP2
disk to install that. Of course that will reformat my drive and I will have
to do all the updates and then install Office and the rest of the software.

Am I correct?

Should take a whole weekend I'll bet.....

Yes, you are correct.

Installing WinXP will take about one hour, then 30 minutes for
SP2, then x hours for your applications, y hours to configure
them and two hours for the various automatic updates.

Correct but you can use a program called AutoPatcher to install ALL
Microsoft updates from SP2 to Feb 2007
Search for it in Google--downoad install and run it--there is the main
program and updates for Nov Dec 2006 and Jan Feb 2007

Dont forget to take back- ups of docs, favourites, settings, passwords,
network and mail settings. And emails. If you are using the store folder
within OE you will need to back that up making sure you include the
folders.dbx. Once formatted its too late.

Its a bit drastic for what may be a driver issue/ conflict? If you are
reloading everything as it is now you may be in the same situation after a
clean install. If you do a google of your problem you'll find lots of
problems similar to yours dating back to 2002.

There is a known Via chipset problem with the Audigy card. Also some of the
earlier ones may have a faulty eprom on the card which rendered the card
useless.

I'd trawl throught the Creative support forums before "jumping ship". The
forums are usually a great deal more helpful than the official techs. You
will need to give more detail of your pc, problem and other card/
software/hardware in use to give the bigger picture.

when doing this. after all the precautions that have been suggested.
first thing to do when xp is finished installing is to TURN OFF auto update.
install the SP2 disk then TURN ON auto update.
otherwise xp will try to update from windows update while you are installing the SP2 cd.
