reinstalling xp

Hi.
I am having trouble with reinstalling xp. I have tried to reinstall
from an oem disc but it won't let me do a clean install. I have an
upgrade version of xp original but the current system won't let me
install that over the top as it is an older version. Is there any way
around this? I have a lot of crap on my c drive that I would like to
get rid of by reformat and reinstall.
Thanks

Assuming the OEM cd is generic and not system specific, set the pc to boot
from cd, delete partitions. Then create partition and procede with the
installation.

Your upgrade version will require an earlier edition win cd to use during
the clean install process.

Jo, you need to be more specific that just, "it won't let me do a clean
instal.", or "it won't let me install over the top of an older
version.". What exactly happens when you try? Error messages? How
are you trying to do the install? Did you boot from the OEM CD? Did
you set the boot order in the BIOS for the CD to be the first boot
device? The only thing an OEM version can do is a clean install. Also
know that an upgrade version of XP, which is a retail license, can do
either an upgrade, by running the install CD from witching the running,
qualifying OS, or a clean install by booting from the upgrade CD. It
will prompt for you to insert the CD for the qualifying product.
