Help: Administrative Rights/Permissions Changed

Sam

Hello,

How do I change my rights/permission to default administrator/power
users for all apps and system? Some time ago, I had a friend help me
with my PC and the software permissions were changed to manipulate a
piece of software to run. Everything was fine until now.

My Norton AV had recently expired so I installed AVG, free anti-virus.
AVG would not update indicating that I don't have sufficient rights. I
tried to uninstall AVG but it would not let me. I also had difficulty
in uninstalling Norton but I was able to do so. With AVG, an error
message pops up that one of the files in c:\windows\Programs\AVG is
unable to be deleted because of insufficient rights. I signed in as
administrator but I was not able to uninstall it from that as well.
Right now, my system is defenceless. I tried to uninstall as both
(admin)/power users.

I have two users(A) and (B) setup as "Administrators" and (C) as basic
guest. I would like to somehow reset the two users (A&B) and the main
Administrator to the default Administrator rights but I don't know which
files/directories were initially effected initially.

Can someone provide me with some assistance on how to go about and
change things back to the way they should be?

Thanks in advance.

Oh, BTW. I forgot to mention that nothing happens when I select SYSTEM
RESTORE. The hour glass appears momentarily and disappears. I then
selected to UNMONITOR drives in the SYSTEM RESTORE settings and this
made no difference. I am also using XP Pro SP2.
