The same happened to my test system last year, after I wantedly tested the activity of Blaster Worm. After the system had been disinfected, I noticed the same behavior of missing network connections. But I could still connect to the internet using the RASPhone.pbk file present under this folder:
%AllUsersProfile%\Application Data\Microsoft\Network\Connections\Pbk

My main problem is when i go to my network connections the connection is not
listed there. It is still on my desktop and when i go threw there to
properties i select show icon. I have deleted all the connection to the
internet and reran the internet wizard. It will be there then. when i
disconnect from the internet it disappears from my network connections. I can
use the desktop icon to connect to the internet again but can't disconnect
and the active internet connection icon is gone.
