HElP activation problem

I installed windows xp home edition on my computer, and it was working fine,
then when it was time to activate it it says "generating new ID" then skips
the two other windows and closes, making it inpossible to activate my windows
xp, what do i do?

All that did was tell me how to open the program im having troubles with to
begin with, isint there some way to reset it or alterative way to activate
