help!! 141 emails lost when mailbox reached maximum limit

Before I learned how to archive old emails, my mailbox reached 14,000 emails.
When I subsequently downloaded emails from my earthlink account to outlook
2003, the mailbox reached its capacity and emails did not bounce back to the
web server. Does anyone know where they are and how to retrieve them?

Outlook version please? No one can help you unless you tell us your version.

Taking a wild stab, try this Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
"Allow upgrades to large tables" extends the limit of PST:

Outlook 2003. I have since reduced the file size, now I just need to find
the 141 emails that were not initially received into outlook when the file
had reached its maximum size. They are no longer available at earthlink.net.

Outlook 2003 will hold 64K items in its Inbox.

I guess I had exceeded that amount. Is there any way now to recapture the
emails that were lost?

In your first post you said "14,000". Clearly you have not exceeded 65,536
with the amount you claim you had.

Maybe with the attachments I did exceed the available space. The error
message I received was "mailbox exceeds size limit". In addition, outlook
would not let me delete or move any items because the mailbox was filled to
capacity. I had to do mailbox clean-up and then archive old emails before I
could do anything else, but by then the 141 emails had been lost. So do you
know how I can retrieve them?

Then it seems evident to me that you have been using an ANSI-format PST
(from Outlook 2002 and earlier) instead of the newer Unicode-format PST.
Set up a Unicode PST and copy the data from the old PST to the new one. You
won't have the problem again.
