Heading modification in style sheet

Hi all,

I have a question regarding modification of a heading in a university
supplied template for a thesis. I want the word Chapter to appear in the
heading as in

Chapter 3: Research Findings

This then needs to integrate with the Table of Contents, which is set for
Heading 1 in the template.

The only place I can find this style is in the Multi-Level list button on
the ribbon but it does not appear in any of the possibilities for modifying
the heading.

Any suggestions or ideas, you'll be doing all of us at the university a
favour!

If I understand your requirement correctly, modify the style (or create a
new one and add it to the TOC used styles) to include numbering, then
customise the number format to add Chapter before the number and : after.
This is a variation on http://www.gmayor.com/Text_as_bullet.htm . Adjust the
spacing as required and apply this style to your appropriate headings.

Hi Graham,

Thanks for trying to help. I went to your web site and the note says "This
does not work in Word 2007" which is of course why I'm having problems.

I seem unable to modify the heading since the option of "Chapter" which is
only in the Multi-Level List button in the ribbon does not appear in any of
the modification options for changing the style.

Maybe it's not possible? Can anyone out there rise to this challenge?

While the method I showed to create a bulleted text does not Work in Word
2007, creating a number format to include text with a number does. It is
only when you try to remove the number from the format that it fails, so
this method will still work for you.
