headers and footers

there is a giant page number in the center of the page, how do i remove it?

cant seem to get into it.
 
It sounds like it could be a watermark...have you checked that to see? In
Word 2003, go to Format > Background > Printed Watermark.....Make sure the
box for "No watermark" is checked.
In Word 2007, on the Page Layout tab, Page Background group, click
Watermark. Click Remove Watermark.
