Header on first page only

C

cc

I want a header on just the first page of my document, but I can't seem to
figure out how to do it. It either ends up on every other page, or every page.
I have Word 97. I'm sure I'll groan when I hear the answer, but can someone
help?

In File, Page Setup, Layout tab, select the Different First Page Option. Now
when you go to H&Fs, you'll find separate H&Fs for the first page of each
section. But the final trick is that by default, the H&Fs are set to 'Same
As Previous' You need to click on the icon on the H&F Toolbar for the
following H&F and then delete the first page H&F.

"Same as Previous" applies only to corresponding headers/footers in
different sections; it unlinks sections. It is not even enabled if the
document has only one section. The First Page Header, Header, Even Page
Header, and Odd Page Header are always separate in any given section; if you
want the same content in more than one, you have to copy/paste it or insert
it separately. Moreover, you can unlink specific headers/footers. For
example, you can unlink the Odd Page Header in Sections 1 and 2 but leave
the Even Page Header and First Page Header linked.

lol, i'm not seeing the answer.

simple way to create header first page only.

1. assuming there is 1+ pages. click at the bottom of the 1st page.
2. go to file > insert. click section break next page. click file > view > normal to
make sure section break is on 1st page. or click the show/hide button.
3. return to the top of 1st page, click in text and click file > header & footer.
4. add header text.
5. header/footer tool bar should be showing. click show next.
6. your insertion point should be in the second header, page 2. click same as
previous.
7. click show next again.
8. highlight header text and delete it.
9. click close.
done.

header should show only in 1st header. no need to go to page setup. page #'s will
work if you use the footer.

page #'s in footer. not on 1st page.

1. double click on the header.
2. click switch between header/footer.
3. click insert page # on hf tool bar.
4. click show next.
5. click same as previous.
6. click show previous.
7. hit the delete key twice. deletes the 1 number.
8. click close.
done. page #'s should start at #2 on the second page.
