Header in Template doesn't show

I installed Office 2003 in my desktop and set up a template for a letterhead
in a header. I just installed 2003 on my laptop and put the letterhead.dot
file from the desktop in the appropriate folder on the laptop.

On the desktop, when I File/New and choose the letterhead template, it shows
the header. It does not do that on the laptop. To see the header I have to
View/Header and Footer to have it appear on the screen.

It is the same template on both machines so there must be a setting in Word
somewhere that will automatically display the header without having to use
View.

Will someone please tell me how to go about getting the header to display
automatically?

I've Googled the problem and consulted Word Help but can't find the answer.

If you're working in Normal view on the laptop, switch to Print
Layout view. If you're already in Print Layout view, then click
