Header formatting (Word 2000) - how to hide individual header

I'm trying to format a book in Word 2000. I have headers which show the title and/or author on odd even pages and I have the page number on each. EXCEPT, I don't want a header when a new chapter starts. Do I have to create multiple sections or is there a way to "hide" the header on specific pages?

Yes, you have to insert section breaks (I use Odd Page) between chapters and
check the box for "Different first page," which gives you a separate First
Page Header, which you can leave empty.

Since you've changed the subject line and not quoted any of the thread, I'm
afraid I don't know what you're talking about.

Suzanne, thanks. That worked like a charm. Is there a need to use odd or
even? I used both depending upon what page the new section would start on.
But then I changed some other formatting so my page count went up, but the
headers still worked out fine.
