Excuse my ignorance, but where do I find "Custom Settings" so I can move the
Header and Footer margins in?

View>Header and Footer>Custom

To have a left footer several spaces in from default, enter the footer using
one of the buttons provided then click in box and enter the spaces before the
actual footer.

This is not an exact science, so some experimentation will take place.
