Hi,

Symantec Virus on line check finds:

C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\HDPlugin1019.dll is infected with
Adware.Gator

How can I remove this? Can I just delete all files in the Downloaded Program
Files folder?

Thanks,

Marcus

You should have Symantec remove it.

Go to the link at the end of this post and download one of the
antispyware scanners like Ad-aware or Spybot S&D. They detect and
remove Gator. I wouldn't be surprised if there was more. Please report
back.

I am running adware now. SpyBot could not find it. Symantec online doesn't
give me an option to remove it nor does it seem listed anywhere.

Adaware & Spybot will both find and remove Gator stuff if they don't
find anything its probably a false positive / NAV glitch. You are
using NAV 2005 I assume. Try running an on-line AV scanner such as
Panda or whatever

http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan/com/activescan_principal.htm

See if that says you have any problems.

Also if you have Ad Aware installed you can Right Click on the suspect
folders and have Ad Aware scan them individually.

Also note the amount of AV app problems on this site related to Norton
against the posts related to NOD 32 problems, big difference.

You mean don't bother trying to remove it? Adware / Spybot found nothing.
I am running the Symantec online virus detector. So I assume it updates when
it downloads Active X controls.

Please submit "HDPlugin1019.dll" to Virus Total --
http://www.virustotal.com/flash/index_en.html
The submission will then be tested against 17 different AV vendor's scanners.

Another way to submit is to send the suspect file to the following email address
scan<at>virustotal.com
{ replace <at> with @ } with only the word SCAN as the subject.

Please post back the EXACT results.

Either tell Windows Explorer to view Hidden System files or change the attribute of the file
and folders to not be Hidded System files.

Nothing finds this bugger!.......I even went into registry and removed all
instances of:
'Downloaded Program Files\HDPlugin1019.dll'
Still shows up in Symantec online AV check! No other virus check has found a
problem.
What if I simply deleted the folder ........"Downloaded Program Files" in
Windows? It now contains over a dozen items and it is described as an
'active X cache' folder. What would happen?

My apologies.. I got the impression you already knew...

Start --> Run
cmd.exe

in the Command Prompt,

cd "%windir%\Downloaded Program Files"

attrib *.* -r -h -s

copy "HDPlugin1019.dll" c:\

exit

Then submit the file "c:\HDPlugin1019.dll" to Virus Total --

Let me get this stright -- You go to; Start ---> Run and you entered; CMD.EXE
and the OS gave you a "bad command or filename" or similar error ?

What if you go to; Start ---> Run and you entered; %comspec% ?

| Running 98SE
| I typed in: cd "%windir%\Downloaded Program Files"attrib *.* -r -h -s

{ /*Well that explains the CMD.EXE problem - Do'h !*/ }

The following are TWO separate commands !

1. --> cd "%windir%\Downloaded Program Files"

2. --> attrib *.* -r -h -s

In the DOS prompt type;
cd "%windir%\Downloaded Program Files"
hit the enter key;

now type;
attrib *.* -r -h -s
hit the enter key;

now type;
copy "HDPlugin1019.dll" c:\
hit the enter key

now type;
exit
hit the enter key
