HDD Problems

I have a Maxtor 120GB HDD

Now my othe rPC parts have gone in for test and replacement, as the MoBo was faulty

All I have is my HDD

I connected it to my friends PC today to get an important file for my assignment off it, and it would not work. I disconnected my firends hard drive and tried wit the hdd set in primary, but it got as far as the XP Pro loading screen with the blue bars, and flashed a BSOD, and rebooted. I tried to boot up in safe mode, but the same result happeneed. The HDD was working fine before the parts were sent back. Can this be fixed, does it need a format

Do not try to boot the drive.
Disconnect the CD drive and connect your hard drive.
Check the jumper settings.
Boot the computer and retrieve your file.

What most likely is occuring is that your friends machine is bing identified
as significantly different from your own.

Most likely you've triggered the WPA. Meaning, in order for you to use the
machine, you have to re-activate Windows.

What you should do is set the drive as the slave, boot from your friend's XP
partition and browse your drive for the file.
