HDD noise after chkdsk

Hi,

Thought it might help the HDD, so conducted a chkdsk /r /f on the HDD and
everything went smoothly without any errors.

But after reboot and since then, my HDD would generate noise.

Question: How could I solve the problem or further detect if the HDD is
about breaking down?

Many thanks.

Download a drive diagnostic utility from the hard drive manufacturer's web
site. That will create a bootable floppy or CD. Boot from that and run the
diagnostics. The first thing to do, however, is make sure there is a full
and complete backup of important data. Any such change in noise from the
hard drive is a bad sign. It wasn't caused by chkdsk per se.

Hi

Thanks for your kind tip.

The noise problem, however, disappeared after a few boots.

Wondering why and it never happened again and haven't shown up for a while.

But thanks for your tip and I will download utility just in case.

Watch it closely, always have a full and complete backup. And yes, run the
diagnostic utility.
