HDD installation - need advice please

Hi,

This is my first hard drive install. A Seagate Barracuda 80 Gigabyte HDD
(ST3802110A), and a VANTEC Clear 18" ATA 66/100/133 IDE Round Cable,
2-Connector Model. Is it correct to leave the default jumper setting at
Master with this cable if using just one hard drive?

Thank you.

If just using one HDD, then yes, leave the jumper on Master. Seagate
is a bit weird like that, here's a link with a pic for better
reference...

I took the drive out of the anti-static bag and the jumper is set to Cable
Select. It seemed, the Seagate website stated that drives were set to
Master as default. Now I need to ask if I should leave it at Cable Select
or change the jumper to Master with 2-connector cable.

Please pardon my lack of rudimentary knowledge. Thank you, again.

Best,

Nick

Take it off of CS and move it to Master since it's just a single
drive, I think that's how Seagates operate. You'll see if it doesn't
register on the BIOS when you load up, if it doesn't, change the
jumper back to CS. When you say it's a 2 connector cable, I'm assuming
it's an IDE cable, that's a standard that they have one IDE that goes
to the board, and two IDE's that go to devices. Even though one will
be empty, or null, it doesn't matter. Let me know how you do.
