HD LED lights

Hi,

I am working on a client's PC. He recently replaced his motherboard
and PSU. He couldn't get it to power on, so he brought it to me. I've
fixed that problem. The only problem I have left is to get the HD LED
lights to work properly on the front panel.

The case is an ANTEC TX1050B. It has four LED lights on the front
panel. The top one is a green power light--it works. The next one is
an amber one (looks like a HD symbol next to it to me) It doesn't
light up at all. Below that are two light green LEDs labeled I and II
(they both glow steady when system is powered on. They don't flicker
with HD activity. When I reverse the polarity of these two leads on
the Front Panel connectors the two LEDs don't light at all. There is
one lead left I have not connected. It is labeled Reset LED. I have
no idea what it is for.

The motherboard is an AOpen AX4SG-UN.

Any ideas how to get the LEDs to work properly. Thanks.

RTFM and locate the HD led connector. If there is a connector fitted,
remove and rotate 180deg. If no connection, find the lead from the HD led
and connect it.

Basically you have three different HD activity LEDs that you can use if
you had extra IDE or SCSI adapter cards. With just the motherboard, you
need to connect the power switch, power LED, one of the HD LEDs, and the
reset switch cables to their respective pins on the motherboard. The
motherboard manual should indicate where those pins are found.

Here is the spec for the led connectors on the motherboard

http://global.aopen.com.tw/tech/techinside/frontpanel.htm

Looks like it supports two IDE leds and two ACPI leds.
Perhaps those are what you are looking at.

More details on the board here

http://usa.aopen.com/products/mb/AX4SG-UN.htm

I hope this helps

Thanks, Don.

I have the MB front connector pin out...but when I connect the HD LED
lead to the correct pins on the MB, the LED stays on all the time, or if
I reverse the leads, it doesn't come on at all.

Any more ideas?

Either you are connecting to the incorrect pins on the motherboard or
there is a problem with the motherboard. If you connect an LED to an
ordinary battery cell, it will light one way but not the other
way--LEDs, like all diodes, have a polarity.

I'd like to test an LED. What voltage (ordinary battery cell) do they run
on?
