I'm having trouble installing xp onto my newly built system. When it get's
ready to run windows xp it says it cannot find my hard drive and must be
reset. It is an IDE connection and bios recognizes it but I can't get windows
to. Please help. The mobo has sata capabilty but the hdd I'm using is IDE.

Any chance that the IDE hard drive is on a RAID controller? If so, you
still need to do the F6 thing early in the XP install process. That is, hit
F6 and have the RAID controller set on a floppy (CD will not work).
Further, if on a RAID controller, you will need to first build a RAID array,
which can be a single disk. Look for something in the POST report that
scrolls by on the screen about hitting some key combo (for example (CTRL-F)
to enter the controller setup.

A quick-fix, if you have the ability to do so, would be to partition and
format the drive on a separate system, reinstall it to the new system and
install Windows. There are occasions where Windows will not pick up a new
drive during install and this usually does it. Generally, this occurs
primarily on RAID controllers, but it can also happen on a standard IDE
drive.
