I'm a cs developer who needs to back up my system for instant recovery. I
have two identical HD for my note book. HD2 is in a USB enclosure. I need to
do a full clone to this drive each week so as not to loose productivity. When
the HD1 goes and has twice so far, i want to plugin HD2 and pick up from it's
last clone point (yes data is on alt backups)

Please help i'll owe you one!!!!

Just a passing thought. You might try using a dual boot setup using Partition
Commander or another app of that nature that will allow you to set up HD1 and
HD2 as bootable system to your laptop. That way if HD1 dies reboot to HD2.

Casper 5.0

Clones from within Windows, and does "incremental" clones from that
point forward... saving a LOT of time.

I've used Casper for a long time with good results on Win XP.
However I have one machine with Vista and Win 7 dual boot and Casper just
doesn't like it. So I use Paragon to backup this box

I believe you gave an answer to my question thank you. Is there a new version
of Casper that will work with vista ult? I've contacted Paragon.

Would you consider casper better or just differrent that the paragon product?

and BTW you're a Fine American for answering this!

I prefer Casper over Paragon for ease of use, scheduling, speed etc. I never
tried it onVista by itself...it should work OK for you.
The problem I had was with a dual boot machine....Vista and Windows 7....the
clone wouldn't boot. Also had problems with Win2000 and Linux dual boot on
another box I have. For some reason Casper doesn't like dual boot. I started
to work with FssDev tech support to try to cure the problem....they are very
helpful....but I didn't have the time or patience to stick with it and
follow through with some of their suggestions. With just Vista on your
machine you should be fine.
The first time it runs it will take a while to copy over everything. After
that it's a breeze since it only copies file that have changed or been
added. I have a 500gb about 3/4 full and run clone in about 4-5 minutes
