HD cannot be partitioned thru Disk Management

Hello. I just put a new 250GB HD in a Win2000 Server SP4 computer. I updated
the motherboard BIOS to support drives larger than 130GB and I also edited
the Windows registry to "EnableBigLba". The BIOS can see the drive (reports
250GB) and also Windows can see the drive (reports 233GB). However if I open
Disk Management to partition the drive, the drive icon shows up with a
"prohibited" sign on it and I cannot partition the drive or do anything with
it. It can be seen (in Disk Management) but it cannot be used in any way. Any
ideas what the problem may be?

thanks so much

You can't even write a signature to it?
